RE: Australian question: Ball-joint splitter

All,

Some followup for those that responded, and the general interested public.

The ABW version that is functionaly the same as the factory tool (clamp
around the eye and the screw operates directly on the threaded end of the
tie-rod/ball joint end is an ok tool (once you've ground the operating bolt
to a point), but it only works on tie-rod ends. It will not admit the eyes
on the steering knuckle on either the top or bottom ball joints.

The tool to get is a Karvik (sp?) from Repco (approx $35). It's a different
design, looking not unlike a clothes peg, with a bolt to force the jaws
together. This fitted fine over both top and bottom ball joints, with a
little tender assistance from a small hammer (if you get carried away, kiss
the boot goodbye).

thanks to all,

Tony
