- Thread-topic: RE:164 S Oil Consumption
I've accumulated 170K miles on my '92 S since new. Tried different oil types
and brands at first but have been using regular old Kendall 20W-50 since about
40K miles. My S always seemed to have a good appetite for oil, much like
fuel, consumption depends almost entirely on how its driven. Gentle drives on
the freeway at anything less than (but close to) triple digits give me about
2000 miles per quart. Aggressive driving and occasional visits to red line
will give me about 1000 miles per quart. Bouncing off the rev limiter at
every stop light and sustained WOT runs will give me 500 miles or less per
quart.
The rate of oil consumption has been the same since new, my fears that it
would get worse have never materialized.

Hi List:
Can anyone with an S tell me what amount of oil is typically "burned" in an
S? I have heard that a 164S typically burns some oil....but I was wondering
whether it is a quart in every 1,000 miles.....or a quart in another
timeframe? I know that the condition of the car may dictate how much oil is
burnt......but I have heard that 164S's typically will burn oil....so that
may not be a reason to stay away from a particular car.
Thanks!
Dave
