Hitting the nail on the head, JH does it again
I always read the esteemed Mr Hertzman's posts but the one about possibly
modifying the new Maserati was a classic.
Like the idea of buying a car (or anything else for that matter) for its re
sale value (what, you're afraid you won't like it so you buy something you
think someone else will?) the idea of buying a car so that you can modify
it is a little puzzling.
There is of course a case for modifying box stock generic cars to suit
one's taste. The larger the common denominator used by the marketing types
the more likely it is that there's something that could be "improved". But
when you take a makers top line car and modify it, you do have to know what
you're doing and be sure the particular compromise you will have to make
wasn't one already considered and rejected by the engineers.
Better tires are nearly always worth having but bigger tires should be
thought about carefully, for example.
