Modern exhausts are made from aluminized steel, not galvanized. Service 
life for aluminized steel is about 6 years in normal Canadian use (probably 
the harshest in the World) which makes stainless systems uneconomic. 
Stainless won't rust easily but will fatigue fracture. Aluminized steel is 
actually the best available material for exhaust systems when you do the 
cost versus service life calculations properly.

The old days of mild steel systems that rust through in three years or less 
are long gone for quality components.
