Re: Berlina vs. early Alfetta sedan interiors

Damian Magista, after looking at a picture of a first series Alfetta Berlina,
writes "I will be hornswaggled if the seats are not the same" as those in his
'72 Berlina; Don Daegrigg adds that "Milano seats, front and rear, fit my 79
Alfetta Sport Sedan. So, the "transplantability" might go all the way back to
the Berlina. "

Had to look up 'hornswoggle' - ah, bamboozle, hoax. Sorry, Damian. The first
series Alfetta Berlina carried over many familiar aesthetic clues (in the
dash, door handles in and out, front quarter windows, upholstery patterns) but
in the seats themselves there are a very few 105 and 115 parts, mostly in the
reclining mechanism and headrest adjuster, but the rest, right down to the
seat slides and their allen head bolts, are all 116 parts. Don is correct that
Milano seats, front and rear, drop into Sport Sedans (second series car in the
rest of the world) and that is probably largely true for other 116 cars like
the 90. Pat Braden said that second series Alfetta sedan seats will not fit
first series Alfetta sedans because of differences in the floorboards, but I
doubt that. If you look at the rest of the cars the split between first and
second series on cosmetic details is pretty comprehensive; first series
bumpers (Euro) look like Berlina bumpers (but aren't), first series door
handles look like Berlina door handles (but aren't), second series door
handles are identical to Milano except for plated paddles. It extends to
things like hood-hinging - front hinged on Berlina and first series Alfetta
sedan, rear hinged on Sport Sedan and Milano, etcetera ad infinitum. And
windshield dimensions- first series have the upswept slotted cowl like the
Berlina, thus shorter glass. (Lots of people have tripped on that one - an
Alfetta sedan windshield is an Alfetta sedan windshield, right?)

Sorry 'bout that - good guess, but no cigar.
