RE: my shifter disengages when i go in reverse somtimes.

With all the types of questions you've been asking, here is what you should
do:

1) Buy yourself Pat Braden's Alfa Romeo Owners Bible and read it cover to
cover.
2) Go the Alfa Digest archives and read up on recurring Milano problems.
3) Get the car to a qualified Alfa mechanic and have it gone over for "the
usual problems"
4) Take on small jobs yourself at first while you learn and have the
mechanic do the big ones.
5) As you read and learn, take on more jobs yourself. You will start saving
money and increase your knowledge.
6) Forget all these go-fast notions until the car is in good working
condition and you know it inside and out.
7) Get the Car Disc manual and study it. Print out the pages you're
learning about and compare them in the garage.

Figure out what's fun about your car. Compare that to what you want in a
car. If the Milano isn't a fit for you, sell it and shop for a car that
fits your needs. Alfas are maintenance. Constantly. They require work
to keep them going, they have some niggling recurring problems, won't break
the sound barrier but will give driving enjoyment in many ways. If you're
not ready to take on a car with "personality" (both positive and negative)
perhaps the Milano isn't for you.

Knowing your car is the top priority to enjoy it. So get to work.

In answer to your original question, it's probably the shift linkage.

i put the shifter in reverse..start backing up..and i give it some gas..and
it pops back into nuetral by itself...does anyone know why?

do you think the gearbox needs oil..or is this an electrical problem?

i dont use the car alot...could this be a reason why...
