Re: Bosch Spider spark plugs, boots, and resistors?
Jeff:
Let me rewrite your email. <g>
Good news, when I checked my ignition system before doing a tune-up, I
also noticed the
resistor-type spark plug boots just didn't seem to stay seated. I removed the
intermediate boot and was able to get a secure connection. Also found my coil
wire to be badly corroded inside the distributor cap.
These were the source of my poor spark and a contributor to the plug
fouling. After repairing my ignition system my Lodge Spark Plugs . . .
would have probably cleaned themselves up after an Italian tune up, and
I would have saved doing all that cross referencing of parts numbers and
the $1.50 each I paid for those new spark plugs. <end of rewrite>
So, did you blame the Lodge's for not working when critical parts were
not making good connection? I don't know if you plugs needed replacing,
or if you threw parts at a problem before finding out what the problem
really was. I doubt strongly whether a brand switch from Lodge was
necessary.
OK new plugs every once in a while are a Good Idea, for newer cars such
as our '92 Spider the recommendation is changing them every 30,000
miles, still with Lodge 2HL's.
