RE: Montreal Engine Value

Before attempting that swap, consider a few things: 1) Do you want a
nose-heavy car with lots of wheel spin? 2) "Missing the exhaust..."
These are quite elaborate, tubular steel headers, which are also No Longer
Available. 3) The engine is heavier and bigger in bulk than the Alfa V6.
It will be a tight fit. 4) It also sounds much better than the V6. 5)
You will need the Montreal gearbox, too. 6) On the other hand, the V6 is
taller and will require a big ugly hood scoop, whereas the Montreal V8 will
not. 7) Oh yes, minor thing, dear me - - the Monty V8 is a DRY SUMP
system, so you'll also need all the plumbing, oil tank, etc. 8) And it
uses 2 Bosch electronic ignition modules; you'll need those, too. Also NLA,
but some are hiding in Europe at Ferrari prices. (Wait 'till you price the
rotor at $90., the distributor cap in the Hundreds, and the ditributor in
the Thousands...)

The V6 would be a better proposition. Probably it would also be a Fright
Pig, as they say.

To the contributor who says, "the Montreal engine isn't all that great in
street trim" I would reply (ho ho) you don't know what you're talking
about. The Montreal is a real sleeper among Alfas. Just ride or drive one,
and then you'll know.
