Re: 33 Turbodiesels

Shaun Churchyard writes, re 33 variants, "There is talk that there was a 1.8
diesel, but I cant comment on that."

The books say that there were indeed diesel-engined 33 variants, including a
Giardinetta and a Sport Wagon, powered by a 1779 cc three-cylinder VM
turbodiesel, with performance essentially identical to the 1.3 petroboxer
(both 79 CV, both 165 km/h). A slightly larger (1929 cc, 90 CV) version was
used in the 145/146 range. Production figures (21,278 units for the 33) were a
very modest portion of total 33 production of about one and a quarter million
cars, but for perspective just shy of the 22,000 GTV 6s and far more numerous
than the 9,500 V6 Milano/75s built. One more demonstration, if one is needed,
that the USA perspective of Alfa is a somewhat distorted fragment of the big
picture.
