Targa Newfoundland

Has anyone ever heard of the Targa Newfoundland? It's a classic-inspired
motorsports event run around the island of Newfoundland. I just read a
little about it at www.targanewfoundland.com and got all excited...

I'm considering trying to enter my Spider in the 2003 event, in the
"touring" category, which is basically a less-competitive category that runs
the same route as the full competition cars but one more of a TSD format
than an outright speed event. If it's a well run event and a great time,
I'd be interested in putting together a full-competition entry for the 2004
event.

Anyone feel like codriving this year? I'll pick up all the car-related
costs, but I need someone to ante up half the registration fee (US$2400
total) and pick up all their own travel and lodging expenses. (NOTE: The
registration fee does not have to be paid all at once. It can be broken
down and paid for monthly, making it more palatable than coughing up $1200
at once...) Newfoundland is apparently a pretty intersting place, and it
sounds like quite an adventure.

If you're interested, my car is a 1987 Graduate with Panasports and a
properly sporting suspension, hot cams, header and sport exhaust. I'll
probably have the head rebuilt before the event, as well as some other work
to make sure it's 100% tip top for September, but it's a very solid, strong,
and good-running Spider and I don't worry about it one little bit.
Alternately, if your car is better suited to the event, or if you'd just
prefer to run your own car, I'll serve as codriver and kick in half the
money from this end.

There is also a SLIGHT possibility that I could get some wacky sponsorship
money to help defray costs (I have a few tricks up my sleeve in that
respect) but for the sake of argument, let's assume that we will be footing
the whole tab ourselves.

Read about the event at www.targanewfoundland.com and contact me off-digest
if interested. If not, I'll get some crazy from the Porsche club, but I'd
really prefer not to go that route for obvious reasons. My second-gear
synchro would never be the same...
