RE: Which battery lead to disconnect first

I've used my adjustable wrench as welding rod when working on my '76 VW
Bug many years ago. I was working under the rear seat (where the
battery resides) and the wrench slipped out of my hands and contacted
the frame and the hot wire on the voltage regular. Still have the
wrench with a nip taken out of the handle. The Bug is long deceased.

And I've also blown out the side of a battery. I wanted to check to see
if a plug was sparking so I put it on top of the battery and started the
car. It was near enough to the battery hold-down strap that it sparked
and there was a slight boom as the hydrogen ignited. A chunk of plastic
was blown off the side of the battery and acid was thrown about. Took
me awhile to clean up things.

And now I remove the negative battery cable whenever working on anything
electrical especially welding.
