Why not ?  If the circuit path from a power sorce (battery) is broken it
will not matter if the +ve lead touches the body.

The only time it MAY be a problem is if you have some kinda capacitor
systems connected and charged in your electrical system (this is a WAG, wild
arsed guess).

Enlighten me if I've missed something here.

Also, the negative lead can be safely rested against the bodywork while
the positive lead is hooked up, while the opposite is not true.
