Re: alfa-digest V9 #156 - Alfette to spider crank swap
Crankshaft pulleys will all interchange. The nut has to match the
pulley. That is, the nuts and the pulleys look different, but the
crankshaft snouts are all the same.
So are you wanting to put an Alfetta engine in your 88 Spider? Rather
than use the 88 crank, just have the Alfetta crank drilled for a pilot
bushing.
The oil pans are quite obviously different. And the 88 L Jetronic
cylinder head is different. If you are running the Bosch injection, you need
the 88 head. If going to carburetors, use the Alfetta head as the ports will
match a European intake manifold better. The main difference between the
Alfetta and the 88 head is the intake ports. Plus the 88 lost the drain back
holes next to the cam galleys.
If you use a Spica (Alfetta) front cover with either L Jetronic or
carburetors, you need to drill and tap the oil holes for set screws.
