Re: 105 clutch lever removal

John,

I've had trouble with that same bolt on a couple of cars. The bolt has a
tapered flat on it that mates with a flat in the clamp so it can't be twisted,
it can only back straight out with a bit of force. Soak it with PB blaster or
WD40 and go have a snack (you don't get a beer 'till you're finished). When
you come back, back the nut off so that it comes just past the end of the bolt
- so that most of the threads are still mated but you'll be pounding on the
surface of the nut instead of the end of the bolt. Keep in mind that you can
still easily shear or fatigue the threads using this method so don't pound any
harder than necessary. Use something non-steel, like a brass drift punch, if
you can. Soak and wait again if you have to. I have one of these bolts that
I'd sell you for $10.00 if yours gets ruined but I'd rather keep it as a
spare, so take care! As I think about it, I wonder if it might be better to
have the nut exactly even with the end of the bolt so that you have a greater
surface area to pound on. If someone has a better method, please chime in.
