164 help needed
Hi -
It's been awhile since I've been subscribed to the list. Been too busy
fixing broken cars of various sorts.
Anyway, I'm working on a 164, which happens to belong to our own
listmaster Richard Welty and need some help.
The car runs very poorly when cold, usually clears up when warm but not
always (it does for me :-). This poor running when cold is accompanied
by large plumes of black smoke that would make most city buses proud.
The check engine light is also on.
The code stored is a 1-2-2-3 which is: "The heated lambda probe
regulator inner adjuster reaches the minimum or the maximum value of
correction."
Anyone BTDT?
So far I have not investigated this too far. The wiring to the coolant
temperature switch looks ok, although it has been repaired previously.
Anyone know exactly what this code means? I'm guessing the mixture is
too rich and the system can't compensate, but could also be a bad oxygen
sensor?
The car also has a few vacuum leaks which will be fixed when it all goes
back together. I have it apart right now for a timing belt, oil seals,
and water pump.
Any help would be appreciated . let's help get Richard's car running
properly :-)
TIA,
Jeff
