I have never put a square tail spider up on stands next to a Duetto /
Roundtail, but I suspect they are so much the same that it will not matter.
The Duetto has a different windshield shape and the rear body is obviously
different such that hard and soft tops will not interchange.
But I am quite sure the chassis is the same. I have cut up a Duetto
or two and several square tail spiders and they seem pretty much the same.
Or at least all the parts I have removed from round tail cars are pretty much
the same as the square tails. About the only difference I have noted is that
the early lower A arms attach with two bolts instead of four. And the Dunlop
brakes are obviously different. And the rear axle has smaller axle shafts.
And as I mentioned, the early cars had floor mounted pedals. The Duetto had
mechanical clutch linkage and the 69 Roundtail has hydraulic system mounted
under the floor.
The only difference in the exhaust system came with the catalyst. The
center section has a flange on the front instead of a slip joint.
So anyone aware of other differences?
