smoke and fire

Mr. Bill-

I've been using the burn-out method to remove Spider trailing arm bushings for the last 25 years or so. It always gets the bushing out and the resultant smoke and fire can be most entertaining. As in Bruce Giller's post, I use a torch ( but oxy-acetelyne...no waiting) and then cut through the bushing sleeve with a sawzall (again, no waiting).

I'm sure a press would be faster if you made the proper fixtures and used them carefully, but since at the most i've done maybe 5 sets of bushings a year, it never seemed neccessary to make such a set of tools.

Besides, then there would be no smoke or fire...

regards from APE land,

Michael
