Starter Inhibitor Relay
I'm still trying to get this 164S to start consistently. The battery is
new, but turning the key produces no click or groan from the starter.
The relay under the dash that turns off certain accessories during the
start cycle does work, but the starter doesn't seem to be getting any
juice.
One of the things I am investigating is a rumor that there is a relay
between the battery and the starter that is part of the anti-theft
system (which is currently shut off on my car). I can't find this in my
Car Disk manual, but I do see a "starter inhibitor relay". Since my
starter is definitely inhibited, I wonder if this has failed. It seems
to live behind the instrument panel. Does anyone know how to test if
for failure other than to substitute a known good unit (which I don't
happen to have and don't want to buy unless I need it).
If this is not the relay in the anti-theft system, I would also like to
know where that sucker is and how to test it.
Thanks all,
Rex in Averill Park
