Re: Ferrari and Alfa

According to the terms of the put option that Fiat has, the company
cannot be reconfigured in any major way prior, or it cancels the option. This
would also include the Italian government taking a large stake in the company,
as has been rumored in the press. Being that Alfa is really the only valueable part
of the company, if they seperate Alfa from the Fiat auto group, it ensures the demise
of the auto group as a whole, since no buyer in their right mind would take on the
debt and liability of the Fiat/Lancia brands.
Related to this: I was reading a wall street analyist's report on the current state of Fiat, and
to sum it up, the company is a total mess, but the Alfa brand is the shining star since they
have experienced a bit of a rejuvination with innovative new products. Nice to see our
favorite car manufacturer getting kudos in the general press...who knows, it may yet tempt
GM to bring the brand over here.
