Makeshift Clutch Aligner
If you can't source the plastic or alloy "one-size-fits-all" set from your
local parts store you can turn down a piece of dowel rather easily.
As I have access to a large variety of tools, I've found that a 3/8 drive
extension bar will usually allow a 1/2 drive socket to slide neatly along
its length (depending on brand). I fit a 3/8 dr socket with a suitable
outside diameter to fit into the spigot hole, and then slide a suitably
sized 1/2 dr socket along the extension to mate neatly with the splined
clutch plate centre. If you put pressure on the end of the extension and
use a bit of 'feel' you can tell when the whole lot is perpendicular to the
flywheel, then you nip the clutch bolts up.
You need a 3/8 dr extension which is the same diameter along its full
length(1/2"), with no shoulder
Having said alll this, I do Alfettas by eye !
