windshield installation

 Hi all, I've got a new windshield to fit into my almost ready to go '74 gtv.  I put a new gasket from Hurtienne  on the windshield.  I do not have the chrome pieces for the gasket (do I have to have them to make it fit?).   Tried mightily to fit it in with 2 guys helping, but it kept popping out.  Anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma area with expertise?  Dan
