special tools

Kind Alfisti,

I'm just planning the operations I'll undertake on my car over the Christmas break now: timing chains, clutch, some brake work, other miscellaneous bits and pieces.

The only thing that concerns me about the timing chain operation is the special tool that is supposed to be used to hold the cylinder liners in place once the head has come of. Do people typically have the special tool, or do some of you dummy one together out of other stuff? Photographs would be appreciated, if possible.

The other special tool that I may need is the clutch centring tool for a 116 transaxle. I gather that I could make on by cutting up a spare input shaft, but I don't have a suitable parts car with an input shaft I could cut up. Is there another way of dummying one together?

I'll probably buy the tools if I can find them -- I just like having good tools. And, I have a continuing competition with my brother over who has the coolest tools. But I would like to know what I can use if I can't find the tools in time.

(Also, if anyone in the lower North Island of NZ happens to have either of these, and would trust me enough to lend them to me for a couple of weeks, I would be astonishing appreciative.)

Kind regards,
Anthony
