I would recommend looking for an indash unit that has ESP - Electronic Shock Protection.  Most of them feature 10 second and up buffers - and if your car is going through something that would make you cd skip for more than 10 seconds in a row, you probably have more to worry about than a skipping CD.

Sony makes a couple of units that have it, and some aren't even too gaudy...
