Re: Newbie checks out GTV - Documents findings...
Don't buy it! Many things about that car are suspect, starting with the
model identification plate on the firewall. A US Model 1750 GTV should be
tipo 105.51 and the European version is 105.48. I'm not sure what a 105.03
is, but it's not this car or any other 1750 GTV. Although this car's
overall appearance seems good, virtually every picture shows some detail
that is missing, incorrect, or poorly done. Others have mentioned the
non-original interior, but there's also the duct tape in the trunk, the
rubber plumbing on the fuel cell, modern, aftermarket wipers that are out
of keeping with a polished restoration, badges that aren't right, and more.
I could go on, but the main point is that with this many small things
questionable or wrong, you should also begin to question the quality of the
bodywork, paint and mechanical work.
The car's biggest flaw, however, is that it's mission isn't well defined.
It is NOT a race car. The tubing occupying the back seat area is a roll
bar, not a cage, and is therefore not legal for racing with SCCA or any
vintage club in the Southeast. The fuel cell installation, the interior
and dash, the use of the stock fan, the plumbing in the engine compartment
and numerous other features are also not up to racing standards. From what
the photos show, I'd be surprised if the suspension or the engine were
either. This car is a cafe racer, a wannabe. That's fine if you like it
and want to pay for it, but don't be deceived into thinking the car is
something it's not.
