Quick question - where do you live?  This question reminded me of something.  I remember my former Milano doing this a few times, and I seem to recall it was actually due to parking the car on a hot parking lot.  After starting, the fuel circulating back to the tank would boil or something like that, due to the heat radiating up into the fuel lines.  I'm sure someone else remembers more accurately what I'm talking about...
