Eric, I think you should look closer at your rods. I believe you will find
that they were marked 1-4, although IIRC, it is on the main caps.  If you
didn't notice it during disassembly, you may have mixed them up.  I'll leave
it to more experienced hands to confirm, but I think you should try to
reassemble with the rods in the original position.  Also, in a 2 liter the
rods are offset, you need to install them with the offset in the correct
direction by cylinder.  Definitely confirm this with a manual or an
experienced rebuilder.

I was advised to use a little sealant with the O-rings.  I put a thin, thin
coat of gasket sealant around the sealing surface where liner/o-ring seats.
I've only clocked about 2,000 miles since my engine went back in last May,
but so far no leaks and no regrets.
