Removing Spider waterpump, HELP!

What the hell?

It looks like I have to remove the crankshaft pulley to remove the waterpump on
my '84 Spider!

The bottom of the pump won't clear and I don't have the room to clear the
studs. The factory manual shows this to be a very standard procedure. The
replacement pump is identical to the one on the car. Both have a small
extension on the bottom of the pump with a blocking plate and the reference
pointer. Even with both removed, the pump assembly just will not clear the
length of the studs.

Any suggestions? Should I try to remove the crankshaft pulley or remove some
of the studs? I think the crank pulley is safer just so I don't break a
mounting stud. What will I need, a impact wrench, puller, etc.?

The radiator, fan shroud, fan, etc. are all removed.

Thanks!

Jeff
