I've wondered this as well.  I'd always assumed there were some
very excited Lancia fans over at Mitubishi.  Besides the obvious
grill look at the name of their rally car: Lancer Evo(lution).
Isn't that just a little close to Lancia Delta Evo(luzione).
Lancia, Lance...

That said, have the Italian companies ever really been good at
pushing trademark issues?  I've never seen them be as aggresive
as say Jeep with their grill.

Another car that I always thought was very "Lancia" from some
angles was the little Infiniti sport sedan from a few years ago.
The rear was nearly identical to the now-departed Lancia Dedra.
