Lew,

  If you pull off the connector to the air flow meter you will get lots
of shaking and no power, as you describe.  i have done this by
mistake after oil changes.  Perhaps your plug aamd socket needs to be
cleaned with some deoxit. ( Not sure why it works properly when warmed up
though.)
