shimmy persists

Something like that is often wheel balancing.  If that's done, is it done 
right?

Another thing could be that a wheel (or tire) is out of round.  Have you had 
the wheels rotated since the last balancing, and did this make any kind of 
difference?  That could shed some light on the situation.

What about the straps on the rear suspension -- in good shape?

Sounds, silly (especially if the effect is noticed in a particular speed 
range), but could there be some weight, such as a loose battery, that is 
wobbling around?

How are your motor mounts?

Possibly the car is going perfectly straight, but the Universe is wobbling 
slightly due to the harmonic resonance  of massless black holes in the 
vicinity.
