eight-hole metric trivia (was: buying a GTV 6)

Robert Abatecola, disagreeing (amicably, of course) with George Graves writes
"For the record, the 1985 Speedline metrics are the ones with 8 holes. The
5-hole wheels are on later cars, definitely not the GTV6." I suspect George
merely miscounted or mistyped. But further for the trivia record, the
distinctive style of the eight-hole wheel was, as far as I know, used on all
late metric Alfa wheels, and only on metrics. It seems to have been first used
in a five-bolt 200/60 x 365 version on the 1983-1984 Nuova Giulietta
Turbodelta and in a four-bolt 190/55 x 340 version on the Alfasud Sprint
Quadrifoglio Verde, which also seems to have been the first use of
Quadrifoglio Verde name as a notch-up from the previous maximum-prestige
Quadrifoglio Oro, a name which had come in with late Alfettas. (as far as I
know the Quadrifoglio Platino designation was unique to the US market top 75
2.5.)

Yours for ever tinier nits,

John H.
