Cody,

I've had keys made for my 91 at my local hardware store that work but this
is using the original as the model.  Your locksmith probably missed
something that is part of the original but may not be necessary for the door
locks.  They should be able to make one that works if they access to the
ignition switch.

There are many sources for key blanks that I am sure others will mention,
IAP, etc.
