DIY Alignments

Does anyone on the list do their own alignments (caster, camber, toe and/or thrust)? I've been doing a bunch of suspension work on several of my cars and am faced with the choice of either taking them in to some generic alignment shop (like the one my indoor-grill-selling-boxer-turned-spokesman-5-kids-named-George friend who likes in the funny box in my living room recommends) or buying the tools and doing it myself.
Being a diehard DIY-type guy I'm inclined to do the latter, but I'm wondering just what special tools I will need and whether I can get good results without laying out too much more cash than a couple of 4-wheel and one thrust alignment by a professional would cost me.
If it makes a difference, the patients in question are my 164S, Subaru Legacy and GTV6.

thanks,
