RE: New Elan

The last Elan was a called the S2, or Series 2 and was sold in 1991 only here
in the US, though I have seen a couple 92's for sale in Hemmings. They had a
list price of $40,000 when new, though I doubt that they sold for that much.
Check the prices of used Elans: they are consistently in the $15,000-$20,000
range. That's not bad for a 12 year old car, so some people must like them.
Conversely, check the prices of a 12 year old Alfa. Apples to apples, they
are holding their value quite well. Personally, I find them quite attractive
and would get one if the right one came along: yellow with the yellow/black
interior. They have wonderful surface detailing and great proportions. It
happens that there is a silver one parked about 300 feet from my desk today.
I just had to go look at it. If a car looks good, handles well and quickly,
is reasonably reliable, and unique (just like an Alfa), then it does not
matter where some parts came from. There are no more 100% American or German
or Italian cars.
