re: transaxle selector problem
When I first got my $450 GTV-6 on the road, I experienced a similar,
but different problem. Coming out of fifth, into the 3-4 plane, the
gearshift wouldn't move forward into third or backward into fourth.
If I engaged second, I could then shift UP into third or fourth.
Downshifts from fourth to third and upshifts from third to fourth
were fine. Only when coming out of fifth did I experience the
problem. (I never tried going from reverse to 3 or 4, so I can't say
about that.) When I eventually replaced the transaxle with a used
one on account of worn synchros and the fact that it had to come out
any way to replace the mounts, the problem went away. Upon partial
disassembly of the old transmission, I didn't see anything obviously
wrong, but that's not to say I would have noticed if there were..

Subject: transaxle selector problem
Hi all,
Was out for a hard and fast drive last night, when I lost fifth
gear. It just disappeared. I was shifting from the third-fourth
plane into the fifth-reverse plane, and there was no forward
position. Shifted down and up through the box a couple of times,
and eventually found a fifth gear position, but it felt like I was
pushing into fifth against a block of rubber or something. Also, as
I pushed it into fifth, the lever slanted across to the left, where
third is.
It was cold and dark, so I didn't go poking around underneath.
First through fourth are all selecting properly.
Has anyone else had similar problems with a transaxle car?
Feel like taking a stab at long distance diagnosis?
Kind regards,
Anthony
