Alfetta heater control sliders and cables

Hey cats,

Anyone whose dealt with the cables and sliders
for the Alfetta heater controls and vents? Any
tips on getting them back in?

I took my console appart for a stereo install and
thought it would be a good time to find out why
one vent and on heater wouldn't slide right. The
cables had come off the sliders. The clamp that
holds them was a bit mangled, so I took out the
whole slider face and did some fixing. Epoxy to
rebuild some of the plastic, etc. Getting four
cables back on the assembly is killing me. Laying
down looking under the dash with the seat in the 
way and needing three hands has made me abort the
job twice.

I've begun to think taking the cables off the 
vents and heater and attatch them to the console
assembly first is the way to go, and then re-
attatch them to the vents and heater? Or remove
both seats and have someone lay down next to me
and help?

Anyone done this? I'd appreciate any input.
