Hi Tony:

Alfa started using the relay in '74 (although I've heard some '73 cars have it, too) when they installed that silly seat belt/ignition interlock system. So, it wasn't installed for the same reason, but it does the same thing to protect the ignition switch from wear. I replaced the relay on my '74 Spider a few months ago with a new Bosch relay. It was still working fine, but it was 28 years old, so just to be safe I retired it to the glovebox as an emergency spare.

I'm puzzled.  My '74 GTV has a starter relay in it, stock from the lil' old
Alfa factory.  Is it not doing what I think it is -- i.e. keeping the big
volts from having to run through the starter switch?  Or ar y'all putting in a
relay for a different reason?
