Rattle in 164L

Ross mentions an annoying rattle coming from somewhere in or under his 164L.
I have had a reoccurring rattle coming from under my 164S several times in
the last 5 years. It was a bear to find, but finally turned out to be a
couple of the flimsy heat shield panels working their mounting screws loose
enough for them to rattle like tin cans when I go over bumps. My problem
shields are behind the exhaust system, so I only get a chance to tighten
them up when I put the car up for some other service. Look to see that the
exhaust hangers are attached and in good condition as well. You might also
have a loose baffle inside your catalytic converter. The other place to
check is all the mounting bolts at the top of the strut towers. This last
one usually causes a clunk, rather than a rattle though.
