Re: My nice new 164 is a POS

ewe, my friend, yust got unlucky - no lemon-issues here. and, i doubt inspection wooda found most (if any) of these issues. ya bought a car eight years old, w/135k miles. buy *any* car like tht - even yapanese - & don't be surprised if ya have similar experiences. of *course* yure hoping ya won't have all these problems hit ya all at once, but the lighter side is, after getting 'em fixed, ya should be good-to-go for a while.

several years ago, i bought a 5.5-yr-old '92 164L, w/all service records, & 117k on the ticker... since then, i've certainly had a few *issues* - heater core, stepper motors, tranny input shaft bearing, failing window regulator... besides typical maintenance issues, like clutch, timing belt, hoh pump, exhaust. of course, doing the steppers, window regulator, & heater core myself, saved me a few clams... but, all in all, the car now has >190k on it, & still is a trooper... not bad for a fwd pos, really... ;~)

i've owned suzuki, toyota, datsun, wolwo, vw - the four alfas i've had, (presently still have three), have *all* been no better or worse than any of the above. as far as bmw's go, friends of mine have had 'em for years, & the service/maintenance issues *they* have are truly scary...
