Hi,

The S has a much different powerband than L. The torque doesn't hit really 
strongly until 4000 rpm. This is one of the reasons why an S motor with L 
gearing would probably be pretty soft off the line. The L has a lot more 
torque between 2000-4000rpm, hence was why it was the only model with 
automatic. You really need all the S parts to make a successful conversion. 
The factory knew what they were doing.

The Milano & SZ with the 3.0L engines seem to have ruler flat torque bands. I 
guess the intake and exhaust differences shifted the peak torque upwards. 

I have the Squadra Chip Zamani was talking about and the car is a momster. 
The chip make noticeable improvements in low end torque and driveability. The 
chip also doesn't have problems with the check engine light. It was designed 
to be used with 92 octane gas, but I'm getting by on 91. 

Probably putting out between 210-220 bhp with a chip, muffler, and air 
cleaner. I think with headers and a few more things 240- 250 bhp is probably 
the limit for a street "S" motor. Now you need a Quaife limited slip and 
Tar-ox brakes because there is no way the car can get the power to the 
ground. Ask me, I know.
