Not to resurrect the SUV thread, but I do think this contributes to the
popularity of heavy trucks used as passenger cars.  Vicious Cycle: 
rough pavement => more off-road vehicles on the roads => more wear on
the roadbed => even more heavy trucks.  Sigh.

I cringe when I read of people lowering the ride height of their Alfas.
