administrivia: new digest support plan moving forward

i figured i'd drop this on the alfa list first...

as most of you already know, digest.net services are provided by Krusty
Motorsports Limited, an S Corporation for which i am the sole shareholder.
despite the name, Krusty is basically a "boutique" ISP, which offers web
hosting and email services. Krusty has shown a modest profit most years,
but nothing really to write home about, and for various reasons, 2001 was
really awful and 2002 hasn't gotten much better.

a long time member of the digest who happens to vintage race an Alfa GTV
also happens to run a telecom firm that offers a variety of business and
residential services. he made an offer which i have accepted; Krusty is
now a distributor for Easton Telecom (http://www.eastontelecom.com/).
this is actually a fairly natural supplement to the existing ISP business,
as the offerings include ISPish things like dialup access and T1 lines for
businesses. setting this up will provide a steady reliable income stream
so that the lists can continue to be free for the forseeable future, and a
straightforward way for digest members to support the lists while getting
something of value in return. the markups will be sensible, i expect rates
to be quite competitive with other offerings.

we're in the process of setting rates for long distance service, and i've
not yet learned the details about the dial access. i am currently
developing online signup forms for LD and will do so for dial after i get
the LD forms working properly. other services that i can distribute for
easton will require more hands on handling. the more hands on things can
come to me now, as they aren't good candidates for online automated signups
anyway. for more information, see
