i have serious problems with the concept of the zat unit (i won't call it a
detensioner because it doens't perform that function.)

the alloy engine changes size significantly as it heats up. both the
hydraulic and the mechanical devices allow for this; the zat device does
not.

i've still no real experience with the mechanical setup. i ran with stock
hydraulic devices on my milano while i owned it, and we've retained the
stock device on my wife's gtv-6. everytime i do a timing belt, i open up
the tensioner and replace all the seals. i have yet to have a serious
problem with a v-6.
