Berlina Fuel Pump Fuse

Well I had the boneheaded idea to drive my Berlina to work today. For you
Seattle Alfisti I work in Bothell and live on Capitol Hill. I go through the
Arboretum (sp?), take the 520 bridge then 405 to Bothell.

On my way through the Arboretum I my fuel pump light comes on. After that the
car starts running real rough. I nursed it to the coffee stand which happens to
be manned by the guy I bought it from. Lucky for me. He eventually finds that a
fuse was blown. It's the fuse that is NOT on the main fuse block, there are two
to the left of the main block and the one that's blown is the one closest to
front of the car.

We replace the fuse and all is well. I decide I'm going to drive across the
bridge and to work. Dumb, dumb, dumb. 1/4 across the bridge it poops out again
and I BARELY make it across during rush hour. Whew!

Ok, down to brass tacks. Why would the fuel pump fuse be drawing so much
current? Is the fuel pump crapping/crapped out? Or is there a short in that
particular circuit? The car drives fine for about 5 or 10 minutes before it
blows the fuse again.

I am hoping I can figure it out and fix it after work. It's sitting at a gas
station now. If there are any Seattle Alfisti out there who might volunteer
their skills and help me out getting my poor old Berlina running without
blowing a fuse I will give them a full set of stock Milano Gold wheels that are
in great shape w/ decent rubber. That's 5 wheels and tires. I'm kinda broke,
it's the only real thing I have to offer until payday.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ugh.
