tight piston rings
hey digesters,
i'm finally getting around installing the hastings
piston rings on my 2.5l v6.
getting the piston into the liners is a slight pain,
but since they're not in the block it's not the
R-rated for language experience it couild be.
a question: my pistons with the new rings move with
only concerted effort in the (deglazed) liners. there
is a huge amount of stiction - to get the piston out
of the liner (in order to check that i hadn't managed
to break or jam a ring somehow on installation) i
have to use both hands on the rod. is this normal for
brand new rings? BTW, i have checked that when the
rings are bottomed against the back of the groove that
they do not protrude beyond the piston. so i'm
thinking they are supposed to be this tight, but want
to double check before i cause excessive liner wear.
n.b. i was able to pull the pistons with old rings out
with one hand (and some effort).
thanks,
ethan schartman
