71 GTV Door Gasket Help

I'm still reassembling my GTV and just spent all weekend adjusting my
doors.  I figured it would be best to get them lined up and closing
properly without the gasket in place.  I have a perfect gap on the
front, back, and bottom edge, and the door is flush with the surrounding
panels.  The doors close and latch perfectly with very little effort.  I
installed new gaskets and the doors barely close.  I have to slam them
so hard that I'm afraid something is going to break.  The door latch is
under so much tension that it's hard to open the door from outside.  I
let it sit in the sun all day with no improvement.  I got the gaskets on
ebay from alfamania as new original.  They are nicely made and resemble
the old ones I took off.  My old ones are so hard that I can't compare
the compliance of the rubber.  Any tips???????
