Automatic seat belts in an '88 Spider

I have a friend with an '88 Spider with automatic seat belts that don't work
correctly. That is, the belt end does not move out of the way when the door
is
opened. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix them and/or a wiring
diagram or TSB?

(The automatic seat belts are fixed at the shoulder end, while the other end
moves on a track. When the car door is opened the mobile belt end moves
forward out of the way to allow exit. When the car door is closed the mobile
belt end moves backwards to tension the belt around the driver. This is how
they're supposed to work at least.)
