Help - Lumpy Idle after rebuild - 86 spider

My mechanic's ego has once again been dashed by my 86 spider after a ring and valve job.  The car has a bad lumpy idle and will barely stay running at about 1000 rpm.  Checked the usual suspects, here's the list:

Cam timing - perfect
Valve clearance - .17 intake, .19 exhaust all round
Rings seated nicely -
Checked the plumbing  (again and again)
Checked manxmin throttle switch setting
Clean AFM; cleaned contacts
New Bosch plugs

THe engine pulls great over about 200 rpm and is smooth. 

Please help me figure out what I' m missing.
