Here is another option for what it worth.  I recently installed an electric
fan in my 86 spider as shown in the "Exploding Fan" article on Alfacentro.
The manufacturer Hayden also make control kits with set and adjustable
features.  The wiring sounds right on with the Alfa setup with leads for the
A//C, etc.  Main difference is the Hayen uses a temp probe that actually
mounts onto (through) the radiator and read the temperature of returning hot
water to the radiator.  I would think this might be a better read than the
ambient.  Just a thought.
