More on importation

In alfa-digest V8 #951, Eric Storhok noted the U.S. DOT site
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/Gray0206.html related to
vehicle importation.  This is an excellent starting point and contains a
list of DOT-Registered Importers (RI).  A few of these companies have
websites and give an overview of the process.  One mentions as an
example that the total cost to certify a mid-90s S-Class Mercedes is
about $6,000.  And they show an Alfa logo, which I took to be a positive
sign.  These folks can handle everything from shipping to licensing. 
Yes, it's expensive, but not prohibitive.
